The present analysis surveys the diachronic developments of social attitudes concerning oaths in ancient Greek context, from as early poems Homer and Hesiod, passing through Herodotus’s Thucydides’s accounts, until period following Peloponnesian War. Its main focus is settled a more synchronic instable narrated by Xenophon, mainly his Hellenica, but also taking into account other sources. conclusions drawn this inquiry ought to be understood general context end fifth beginning fourth centuries BCE, help explain political uncertainty period. doubts entertained about capacity gods punishing perjurers (despite Xenophon’s own religious opinions) and, therefore, questioning effectiveness an institution coordinating inter-relations among poleis are not only causes instability period, its results. El presente análisis examina los desarrollos diacrónicos de las actitudes sociales con respecto juramentos en el contexto griego antiguo, desde poemas Homero y Hesíodo, pasando por relatos Heródoto Tucídides, hasta período posterior la Guerra del Peloponeso. Su enfoque principal se asienta un más sincrónico inestable narrado Jenofonte, principalmente su Helénica, pero también teniendo cuenta otras fuentes. Las conclusiones extraídas esta indagación deben entenderse finales siglo V principios IV a. e. c. ayudan explicar incertidumbre política este período. dudas sobre capacidad dioses para castigar perjuros (pese opiniones religiosas propio Jenofonte) y, tanto, cuestionamiento eficacia como institución coordinadora interrelaciones entre griegas no son sólo causas inestabilidad sus resultados.
